The Detroit Pistons are adding a 3-point shooter to their young lineup. The Brooklyn Nets are trading Joe Harris and two future second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons, per multiple reports.
- Joe Harris
- 2027 second-round pick (via Mavs)
- 2029 second-round pick (via Bucks)
Harris is coming off a 2022-23 season in which he averaged 7.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 20.6 minutes per game. His scoring average has dipped in each of the last three seasons. He suffered a season-ending left ankle injury in 2021-22 that thwarted an overall solid campaign after 14 games. He has $19.9 million remaining on his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Last season, Harris played in 74 games and remains one of the NBA’s best 3-point shooters. He has not shot below 41.9% on 3-pointers over the last six seasons and led the league in 3-point percentage twice (47.4% in 2018-19 and 47.5% in 2020-21). Additionally, he has made 150 or more 3-pointers in four of his last six seasons.
The move gives Detroit an additional shooter, an area it lacked sorely last season. The Pistons ranked 20th overall in 3-pointers made and shot 35.1% on 3s, which ranked 22nd in the league. He will join a backcourt rotation that includes second-year guard Jaden Ivey, point guard Cade Cunningham and rookie Marcus Sasser, among others.
